Family values at the heart of Riverdale Care Home
During Spring 2022, Riverdale Care Home and the family of the former resident said goodbye to beloved Colin Prior. The family and the team at the home remain very close, keeping in touch with phone calls, e-mails and visits, demonstrating strong family values and long-lasting bonds.
Former resident Colin was a cherished member of the home. He spent two and a half years living at Riverdale, predominantly through Covid, but celebrating many birthdays and joining in activities with the staff and residents as much as possible.
During that period the staff at the home became a like a second ‘family’ to Colin’s own family, and that has continued after his passing.
Colin enjoyed many activities around the home, he would often help to fill up bird feeders for outside, and also join in craft activities with the team. When he first arrived he was given the role of ‘Car Park Attendant’ through the care group’s Westgate Lifestyle Pioneer initiative, which involved writing notices and giving tickets to those parked illegally which he enjoyed.
On Tuesday, 26th April, Riverdale Care Home hosted a special 90th Birthday celebration in loving memory of their dear resident and friend, Colin. The home celebrated Colin’s life with his family and friends, looking at photographs, eating cake and sharing special memories.
During the turn of the new year, January 2023, the family have continued their connection with Riverdale Care Home and have recently donated a bird table in memory of Colin, placed in the garden for the home’s current residents to enjoy.
Jeanette, Julia and Stephen have said: “Thank you to everyone at Riverdale Care Home for letting us put this up in memory of Dad. We hope all the residents enjoy watching the birds.”
