Residents from St Pauls Care Centre visit Whipsnade Zoo

Under the initiative, specialist activities and wellbeing provider, Oomph! Wellness, residents at St Pauls Care Centre welcome new excursions and activity programme.

Westgate Healthcare, a family-owned and run care group with more than 20 years’ experience in providing specialist and residential care, has launched a new initiative in partnership with Oomph! to keep residents at St Pauls Care Centre connected to the places and activities that matter the most.

The residents have begun enjoying regular day excursions and new activity programmes to keep them connected to the community, alongside Oomph! who will be providing transportation for the residents as part of the new initiative.

On Wednesday 26th June the residents at St Pauls Care Centre visited Whipsnade Zoo as part of an Oomph! trip. Since pet therapy for the elderly has become a popular method of mild therapy for residents with dementia, anxiety and loneliness it made an ideal place to visit for the residents.

Peter, resident at St Pauls Care Centre, said:
“I had a fantastic day at Whipsnade Zoo and I’ll remember it for a very long time. I enjoyed seeing the animals, eating ice-cream, and then visiting my favourite place in the world – the fish and chip shop!”

Juliana Mensah, Home Manager at St Pauls Care Centre, said:
“Whether it’s bringing pets into our home or taking our residents into the community to animal farms or other local projects, some of our most popular events at St Pauls involve creatures great and small.”
