Resident Rocco Enjoys Growing His Own Vegetables

Gardening is widely acknowledged as a great hobby that not only stimulates the mind but the body as well. It’s a great way for our residents to get one-to-one with nature and offers them an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air combined with a bit of exercise.

Research suggests that benefits to mood, self-esteem and other indicators of wellbeing improved significantly for allotment gardeners and our Italian resident, Rocco at Kingfisher Nursing Home, has plenty of experience in managing his own vineyard.

Before moving to England Rocco managed a vineyard in Italy where he grew a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. The staff at Kingfisher Nursing Home have encouraged Rocco to embrace his passion and has helped him create his own allotment in the home’s garden.

Rocco has been growing tomatoes and pumpkins for himself and fellow residents with the produce being used amongst the home for nutritious salads and soups.
