At Westgate House Care Centre in Ware, creating meaningful and joyful experiences is part of everyday life. Recently, the home hosted a truly memorable activity, giving care home residents the chance to take part in a Victorian photoshoot.
A Creative Idea Comes to Life
Looking to offer something a little different, the team brought a unique vision to life by transforming part of the home into a Victorian-themed photography studio for residents. With a styled backdrop and a collection of props, the scene was ready for a day of fun and creativity.
Residents were invited to take part in a Victorian-themed photoshoot. Hair and makeup were carefully styled. A selection of costumes and accessories, including crowns, fans, canes, hats, suits, tulle dresses, and jewellery, helped everyone step into character and feel like royalty.

A Special Collaboration
The photoshoot was led by JC, a talented photography student from Herts College and the son of Arlene, a valued member of the team at Westgate House.
This collaboration offered JC the opportunity to develop his growing portfolio, while creating a truly a unique Victorian photoshoot experience for care home residents. It was a wonderful example of the community coming together.
A Day Shared with Loved Ones
The experience became even more meaningful as family members joined in, stepping into the scene alongside their loved ones and taking part in the photoshoot together. It created closeness and a shared, joyful experience.
Many residents especially enjoyed having their hair and makeup professionally styled. It felt like a glamorous treat. Being pampered and dressed for the occasion helped everyone feel confident, elegant, and like royalty.

Confidence, Joy and Self-Expression
Throughout the day, residents embraced the opportunity to express themselves in new ways. There were smiles, laughter, and a wonderful sense of pride, as each person enjoyed their moment in front of the camera.
For many, it was about more than having a photograph taken. It was about trying something new, feeling their best, and being part of an experience that felt both uplifting and memorable.

Capturing Moments That Matter
The finished photographs beautifully reflect the personality and spirit of each individual. They capture not only the elegance of the Victorian theme, but also the warmth, connection, and enjoyment shared throughout the day.
Activities like this highlight the importance of creating engaging and meaningful moments. They help residents enjoy new experiences and express themselves.
Nancy, Home Manager at Westgate House Care Centre, shared:
“It was such a special day. Seeing residents dressed up, smiling, and really embracing the Victorian theme was wonderful. Having families join in made it even more memorable, and everyone looked fantastic. I’m so proud of all the residents who took part, and JC captured these moments beautifully.”
