Team members at Riverdale Care Home have been super busy this week, spreading awareness and celebrating Dementia Action Week.
Lynda Inch, Customer Relations Manager and David Martins, Head of Sales attended the Community Dementia Forum on Wednesday 15th May at Braintree village, organised by Home Instead in conjunction with the Braintree District Council Community Development Team.
The duo were on hand to provide information and discuss the services provided by Riverdale Care Home to individuals and families living with Dementia. It was a successful day with a whole host of knowledgeable experts providing information and resources to local community members in the Braintree area. The event aimed to raise awareness, challenge stigmas, and encourage action to create more dementia-friendly environments.
Dementia is a global health challenge affecting millions of individuals and their families worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, more than 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, with nearly 10 million new cases diagnosed each year. Despite its prevalence, stigma and misconceptions surrounding dementia persist, often leading to isolation and inadequate support for those living with the condition.
This year’s Dementia Action Week emphasizes the importance of community involvement in fostering understanding and empathy towards individuals with dementia. By raising awareness and promoting education, communities can become more inclusive and supportive environments where individuals with dementia can live fulfilling lives.

Meanwhile, residents and team members within the home, have also been celebrating Dementia Awareness Week, by creating and displaying a fabulous array of Forget-me-Not artwork and poems. Families and friends visited the home and were treated to home-made cakes and refreshments, and could even take their own Forget-Me-Not plant home, raising money for those living with Dementia. The team also provided a wonderful “blue themed afternoon tea party” with delicious goodies for all residents.
