Throughout the month of April, residents at Chestnut Manor Care Home in Wanstead have been lacing up their walking shoes and clocking up steps in their very own “Chestnut Manor Marathon.”
This initiative saw residents of all abilities take part in daily walks around the home, supported by dedicated team and family members. The idea was born from conversations with residents about staying active and doing something meaningful together and quickly evolved into a full-month challenge with a charitable twist.
In true community spirit, the home decided to turn the event into a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Now, a cause that holds personal meaning for many within the home. A fundraising page has been set up, and all cash donations collected throughout the month will be added to the total raised.
“We’ve been absolutely inspired by the determination and enthusiasm our residents have shown,” said the Tajá Young, Home Manager. “This marathon isn’t just about steps—it’s about strength, support, and doing something that brings people together for a greater good.”
The final laps took place on Wednesday, April 30, followed by a well-deserved celebration featuring live music, refreshments, and a glass of bubbly for all the participants.

Chestnut Manor invites the wider community to show their support by donating to the residents’ fundraising page and joining in the celebration of resilience, unity, and compassion.
