Meadowhill Care Home Celebrates Community Hero Week with Residents and Local Heroes

Meadowhill Care Home in Borehamwood proudly celebrated Westgate Healthcare’s Community Hero Week, shining a spotlight on kindness, connection, and local support. The week-long celebration highlights the importance of community engagement, bringing residents, families, and neighbours together.

Honouring Local Heroes

Residents and staff expressed their appreciation through thank-you cards, storytelling sessions, and heartfelt conversations, with those who make a difference every day.

Residents’ Day Out in Borehamwood

On Wednesday 10th September Meadowhill’s dedicated Activities and Wellbeing Lead Silvia and Westgate’s Group Wellbeing Manager, Lucie took residents out in the local community. The outing was filled with laughter, conversation, and meaningful community connections.

Borehamwood Police Station Support

First stop was the Borehamwood Police Station, where residents met Joe, the local officer responsible for supporting the community. Residents enjoyed chatting with him about his role and how he helps keep Borehamwood safe.

Helping keep the community safe with the Fire Brigade

Next was a visit to the local Fire Station, where firefighter Max explained that his favourite part of the job was meeting people, giving talks, and helping the community stay safe. His passion for helping others truly inspired the residents.

Intergenerational connection with the local primary school

The day continued at Parkside Community School, where staff gave everyone a warm welcome. Residents enjoyed watching children playing outdoors with bean bags and hoops, while music lessons filled the air. The joyful laughter of the children brought smiles to our residents Peggy and Shelia.

Even the journey became part of the adventure. During a short walk, residents picked juicy blackberries from the hedgerows:

“This reminded me of when I used to go out with friends as a teenager. Feeling the sunshine on my face and enjoying the sweet fruits at the end of summer.”

Later Beryl added, “I loved being able to get out. It felt like an adventure was about to happen and you didn’t know what magic was ahead.”

Group Wellbeing Manager Lucie reflected on the day. “These outings promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing, while also enhancing dignity and independence. In addition to this, we fostered new memories while having fun.”
