On the afternoon of 24th September 2025, Byron House proudly joined care settings across the country in celebrating creativity and self-expression for NAPA’s National Day of Arts in Care Homes.

Going Green: Residents Showcase Creativity and Connection

This year’s theme, “Going Green,” inspired a stunning collection of resident artwork created throughout the year. Our home was transformed into a vibrant gallery, showcasing everything from colourful paintings and nature-themed collages to upcycled crafts and collaborative group projects. Each piece reflected our residents’ deep creativity and their unique connection with the natural world.

The event was a joyful gathering filled with laughter, conversation, and admiration. Residents, staff, and family members took time to explore the displays, sharing the stories and inspirations behind the artwork. Many creations highlighted seasonal changes, sustainable materials, and the themes of growth and renewal. Capturing the essence of this year’s celebration.

Our residents enjoying being creative as a team!

From residents to staff and even local schoolchildren, creativity at Byron House is a shared journey

At Byron House, creativity is a true team effort. Our residents enjoy a wide variety of artistic activities, from painting and crafts to musical performances—one resident is even known for their remarkable talent as a musician.

Our Activities Coordinator, currently studying a course in the arts, brings fresh ideas and inspiration to our programme, while our Wellbeing Lead, an active member of a local art group, adds extra depth and richness to the creative experience.

We also love working with our local primary school on hands-on projects. These intergenerational sessions have produced some wonderful creations—like the clay creatures now proudly displayed in our sensory garden, symbolising connection, creativity, and community.

Even our Maintenance Team plays a part in fostering creativity. Using their practical skills, they’ve helped bring ambitious projects to life, including a stunning wooden Eiffel Tower that has become a much-admired centrepiece and a perfect example of what can be achieved when everyone contributes their talents.

Cakes, Conversation, and Creativity

To round off the celebrations, we enjoyed a delicious spread of cakes, sweet and savoury treats, and plenty of hot drinks, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The afternoon was not only a showcase of artistic expression, but also a celebration of community, pride, and wellbeing.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to explore new themes and continue showcasing the creativity that thrives within our home

TThe event was a powerful reminder of the positive role the arts play in care. At Byron House, we’re always encouraging self-expression, fostering connection, and finding ways to enrich daily life. We’re already excited for next year’s theme and another chance to celebrate the incredible creativity of our residents and team.

Our Group Wellbeing Manager, Lucie, captured it perfectly:

“Engaging with the arts – whether through music, sensory activities, community projects, or one-to-one sessions – makes a real difference to our residents’ wellbeing. We see every day how creativity can unlock memories, build connections, and give a renewed sense of purpose. From the calm of painting to the shared energy of a musical performance, the arts bring enrichment and meaning to life in our homes.”
