Wanstead Receives Eleven Blessings

Westgate Healthcare’s newest luxury care home, Chestnut Manor Care Home, situated in Wanstead, received eleven blessings upon opening its doors to the public in September last year.

Wanstead is a bustling town filled with great local amenities and a strong sense of community, but it is now home to eleven Ursuline nuns that have created a vibrant and flourishing home in their latest residence, Chestnut Manor Care Home.

The sisters have an incredible history dating back over 400 years, stemming from Desenzano in Italy. Founder, Angela Merici, chose to put her company under the patronage of St Ursula, an early English saint who was known as the patroness of learning, St Angela had a great interest in the development and fulfilment of women. The ethos of the Ursulines is that hard work and prayer go hand in hand, and their desire is to bring Christ to the world.

Today, life looks much different for the Ursuline Sisters as Chestnut Manor Care Home caters to their personal and physical needs. The home offers nursing, residential, respite, and dementia care for people over and under the age of 65 years within its luxurious care setting.

Chestnut Manor Care Home and its sister homes across Hertfordshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire and London pride themselves on being innovators and early adopters of new ideas and initiatives to improve their residents’ lives. Owned and run by Westgate Healthcare, the homes have established bespoke initiatives designed to empower their communities by encouraging residents to embrace their passions and to take the lead in evolving their lifestyles by continuing to do the things that are special to them.

Fernanda Perini, Activities Coordinator at Chestnut Manor Care Home, said: “Our residents have so many exciting activities to enjoy such as creating decorations for internal events, letter writing to stay connected to the Wanstead community, local trips, in-house entertainment, Westgate Healthcare’s Lifestyle Innovations, and much more.

The Sisters have been a delight, they get involved in all the activities that we set, and they encourage other residents to get involved too. It’s lovely to see the care they show everyone at the home.”

Sister Anistasia, Resident of Chestnut Manor Care Home, said: “The place is absolutely wonderful. The facilities are excellent here. We have been looked after very well, the staff are very helpful and courteous at all times. We are blessed here; we have our Mass in the home three times per week which is a bonus. The environment is always clean and tidy, and the domestic staff are always up for a chat. The food here is second to none, everything we ask for the Chef caters to.”

Daniela Danciulescu, Care Home Manager, said: “Since the day we opened, Chestnut Manor has been a lively community because of the arrival of our Sisters. They have made the atmosphere electric as they are active and inspiring. They have made all of our joining residents feel welcome, and they have engaged well in all of our activities over Christmas and New Year’s Day. We are so pleased to have them living at our home.”
