Virtual Bike Ride – Welcome Riverdale!

On 21st August we will be holding a virtual bike ride at Westgate House to welcome our new home Riverdale to the Westgate family and also to raise funds for AFIRM India.

Based in the garden at Westgate House, there will be 2 mountain bikes on turbo trainers which will be ridden by team members during the day to cover 122.7 miles – the distance from Burford House to Riverdale calling in to all of our homes and Head Office on the way! We will have a BBQ and party atmosphere on the day to keep our riders going and the whole thing will be captured with live updates to our social media.

We are raising money for AFIRM India which is a charity founded and run by Gill who is our Administrator at Burford House. AFIRM is a very small charity providing housing, food, clothes and schooling for girls in India who are orphaned/vulnerable. They also provide food for the elderly, poor and needy. Their current vision is –

  • To re-locate the home which is currently in a built up area. To develop small houses rather than one big orphanage. The small houses will accommodate about 3-4 girls and AFIRM will bring in a widow who has no family and would otherwise be living in extreme poverty to act as a “house-mother”.
  • Build a large “community hall” and bring the elderly in 2/3 times a week for them to be fed and to socialise.
  • To start up a business called “sericulture” which is a silk worm farm as the land is surrounded by Mulberry trees which the silk worms love, this will bring in a good income.

If you would like to attend our bike ride event and help us to welcome Riverdale, please contact Debbie for further details on 0800 994 9041.
