Westgate House partners with University of Hertfordshire

Westgate House Care Centre has partnered with the University of Hertfordshire to support the training & development of student nurses in Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire.

We’re thrilled to announce the new partnership which will support the university’s Placement Expansion Project. The project was launched to increase the number of placements currently on offer for pre-registration student nurses in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, and staff at Westgate House Care Centre are thrilled to be supporting new nurses on their career journeys.

The nursing team were delighted to receive their first student nurses from the University of Hertfordshire earlier this month, and the feedback received so far from the students has been promising.

Memunat Mohammed, a first year MSc Student in Adult Nursing said “I’m lucky to have been placed at Westgate House as they are very supportive and I will be able to learn a lot from here. The current processes in the home make learning easy to follow and the policies are clear. Once my training at Westgate House is completed, I plan to continue my career in Adult Nursing and to share my passion for care of the elderly.”

With rising pressures and recruitment challenges in the care sector, the University Placement Expansion Project hopes to bridge existing gaps and offer new recruitment streams for healthcare settings in the future.

Maria Fagen, Training Manager at Westgate Healthcare said “It’s so important to keep updating and improving our nursing knowledge with the increasingly complex healthcare needs of our population. At Westgate Healthcare we always strive to progress our staff by giving them the opportunity to learn, and in turn this increases retention within the sector and most importantly it enables us to continue delivering a high-quality care service.”

As a market leader in the provision of nursing and residential care, we believe that supporting the project will provide student nurses with the hands-on experience they need in order to develop their skills within a care setting, and this will help increase the quality of nursing care in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
