St Pauls Recognised by NAPA for Creative Approach to Resident Engagement

In an attempt to share good news stories in the social care sector during these unprecedented times, NAPA (National Activity Providers Association) recently ran a ‘Letters’ competition asking their members to submit a 200 word letter, sharing their creative approach on how they’re ensuring the wellbeing of our residents during this difficult time.

We’re over joyed that a letter from St Pauls Care Centre in Hemel Hempstead detailing their approach to activities has been selected and published by NAPA. In recognition for their efforts, St Pauls has been sent a free copy of the Activity Ideas publication from NAPA which is a great resource and will come in very handy when planning future activities at the home.

Here is a copy of the letter submitted to NAPA by St Pauls:

Dear NAPA,

Both our wonderful, dedicated team and our amazing residents have been amazing during this uncertain time, but one thing we were all tired of was the negative headlines and news stories talking about all the sadness in the world, so we decided that we would spend this time celebrating what makes the world so great!

Our residents wrote letters to other care homes about what makes them happy and invited them to write back and start new friendships in this time, we planted runner beans and planned a new beautiful garden space to encourage wildlife to flourish and come to the home; one of our most creative residents even used the newspaper articles to create a paper mache earth, and once they decorated it the adorned it with all the positive headlines they could find!

We encouraged a culture of support in our home, with our staff and residents nominating one another to give out thank you cards and get a gift from our ‘Happy Box’. We have also had a theme for each day, and we use that theme to spread laughter; some of the themes nominated by residents are: Music, Art, Spa day and exercise!

Thank you.

From the St. Pauls Care Centre Family
