Riverdale on a Roll with Retro Themed Disco

Residents and staff at Riverdale Care Home in Braintree, Essex, dressed up in 80s costumes and celebrated in style at their latest themed event.

Riverdale’s Care Home Manager, Renata Sulugiuc, organised a retro-themed event for both residents and staff alike to bring people together and develop the family atmosphere within the home.

Members of the home got groovy on the dance floor as the party commenced. Shortly after, an ice cream van arrived and everyone enjoyed a delicious treat. Local singer, Joanna Lee (from Joleevoice.co.uk) provided the entertainment and sang her best retro party songs to encourage everyone to dance and sing along.

Everyone in the home was encouraged to dress up in their best retro attire for the chance to win the ‘Best Costume Competition’. The winner of the competition was Susan Gibson who won first place. Lynda Inch won the spot of second place and in third, Lorraine Gilbank. All winners received a box of chocolates for their great effort and stylish threads.

The home was adorned with retro décor, canapés and balloons made especially by residents to transport everyone into the 1980s.

Renata Sulugiuc said: “The party was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed themselves and people have since been asking when the next event will be. I believe holding events like this in the home is important to build homely relationships with one another.”

A resident at Riverdale Care Home said: “The team put on a good performance. It was nicely done and the singer did a great job. Everyone wore good costumes!”

Riverdale Care Home is proud to be rated overall ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission. Renata joined the home back in November 2021 and is thrilled and committed to making a positive difference to the lives of the residents and staff in her care.
