Riverdale Celebrates 60 Years of Happiness

This week, Riverdale Care Home has been full of joy, with lots of celebrations happening within the home. Resident Dennis has been living at Riverdale since last October, and this week, he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with wife Beryl.

Dennis, who has been living with Dementia for ten years, managed to surprise his wife Beryl with a handmade card, a vase of flowers, cake, and a bottle of Bucks Fizz to toast sixty years of happiness.

With the help of the staff, Dennis painted Beryl the vase with freshly picked flowers as well as decorating the cake baked by Riverdale's chef. His wife Beryl was emotional, with Dennis living with dementia, he had not been able to do anything similar like this in a long time.

Beryl said, “It was so beautiful and unexpected! The staff made a wonderful job of how they set this up and what they have done. It was so much more than I ever expected, and I will never forget it.”

With Beryl still living at the couples' marital home, they still had to stick to the two-metre rule due to government guidelines, but Covid-19 could not interfere in this everlasting love!

Their love story began when they first met, dancing at Tottenham Palais. Beryl said, "Den went with his mate to make up the numbers but got stood up." And the rest is history!

Within their 60 years of a happy marriage, Dennis and Beryl have brought up a wonderful family with strong family values. They have recently just had a new addition to the family, with their great-grandson recently born.
