Making our residents’ wishes come true at Westgate Healthcare
Burford House Care Home, recently won Westgate Healthcare’s ‘Resident Big Wish’ competition, their wish was to ‘Have a trip to Rickmansworth Aquadrome with lunch’.
Fourteen residents, six team members and three family members of Burford House Care Home enjoyed a day trip on Monday 21st August to local Rickmansworth Aquadrome, exploring the beautiful walkways around Batchworth and Bury lake, enjoying the sunshine and different wildfowl including mallards and great crested grebes.
Residents then enjoyed a lovely lunch together at the Café in the Park, an independent family-friendly café serving freshly made dishes using locally sourced ingredients.
Care Home Manager, Brenda Sweetman said, “This was our first ever outing, it went so well and was great fun, thank you Westgate Healthcare for making our dreams come true and a special thanks to Birinder, Activities Co-ordinator and the team for accompanying our residents.”
Award-winning care provider, Westgate Healthcare, strives to create person-centred activities and occasions with family members that imitate their life while living independently.
The ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, rolled out across all Westgate Healthcare homes in 2020, is designed to give residents the opportunity to have their unique wishes granted, whatever they may be.
All residents at each home are invited to write a wish down on a ‘Wishing Tag’ which is then hung onto the home’s ‘Wishing Tree’. Each home grants one wish each month, and wishes that are difficult for the home to grant independently are then entered into a ‘Big Wish’ draw against the other sister homes, and these wishes are granted biannually.
