Introducing Westgate Healthcare’s Lifestyle Pioneers!

When moving into a care home, it is important to keep your independence, your sense of purpose, and keep your passion alive.

Whether it's gardening, event management, food critic, or cleaning, Westgate Healthcare understands that residents' interests and hobbies are imperative to their wellbeing. This is why we introduced the Lifestyle Pioneer initiative, with residents taking on a pivotal role within the care home and getting the opportunity to work alongside the team and carrying out their own duties.

The programme has been a huge success, with residents integrating more within the homes' communities. Lifestyle Pioneering has created wonderful friendships with like-minded people, residents are learning new interests, and the duties have even given them a sense of purpose and pride.

St Pauls Care Centre domestic team has received of assistance from their team member Mary, who is St Pauls’ Domestic Pioneer. Mary has been getting involved with the cleanliness of the home and is always eager to support the team.

Byron House Care Home's residents have been receiving daily newspapers from Shirley, their new Newspaper Distributor Pioneer! Joining the Lifestyle Pioneer programme, Shirley ensures that newspapers are delivered daily, distributing them out to every resident in the home, without fail!

Ashview Nursing Home's garden is blooming, thanks to their resident Gardening Pioneer, Graeme. Graeme has been busy getting the garden ready for the 'Westgate In Bloom' competition! Vera, their Wildlife Expert, has also been taking care of Ashview's newest residents, baby chicks! Vera used to live on a farm and looking after animals is second nature to her.

Kingfisher Nursing Home would like to introduce to you to Fraser, their resident Maintenance Pioneer! Fraser's duties include checking the radiators, windows, and doors, ensuring that everything is safe and working. Fraser feels a sense of purpose, reporting his findings back to the maintenance team.

Resident Ellie is Hampden Hall Care Centre's newest member of the Wellbeing team. Ellie is the Event Lead Pioneer at Hampden Hall and has brought lots of smiles and laughter to the team and residents' faces.

Joyce is Riverdale Care Home's Servery Assistant Pioneer. Joyce works in the dining room most day, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea to the rest of the residents. Joyce was delighted to receive a personalised apron, courtesy of activities lead, Debbie. Joyce loves being part of the servery team!

All the residents who have participated in the Lifestyle Pioneer programme love their roles and duties. We encourage residents to build stronger relationships within their home community and welcome them into the Westgate team! We are very grateful to have fantastic residents who, with the help of our team, continue doing the things that are special to them.
