Westgate Healthcare Residents Compete in a Gingerbread Competition

Gingerbread house

This November, we set staff and residents in each of our homes the challenge of baking and decorating a festive gingerbread house as well as designing a winter scene. The winning image of our gingerbread house competition would become the face of our 2021 Christmas Card.

The competition was fierce. All eight of our homes created artistic pieces with intricate details, each capturing the spirit of Christmas. We are blessed with residents whose talents lie within baking, gardening and crafts. Many of them entered and won various competitions in their local community in the past, and during the month of our baking competition, their talents shone once more.

Each home posted beautiful photos of team involvement to their Facebook page, with residents leading the design of the gingerbread house and involving the staff in various areas of their construction.

A panel of judges assembled at Westgate Healthcare’s Head Office in Borehamwood to select a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner. Each gingerbread house was judged along with all supporting evidence, and the panel voted by putting forward their favourite design along with a reason.

The top three winners of the competition were gifted Amazon vouchers to spend during the festive season.

The winners are…

We’re excited to announce the winner of our Christmas creativity competition is Hampden Hall Care Centre. Hampden Hall designed an amazing gingerbread village, adding various intricate details. The submission had community involvement and was well-executed.

In second place is Ashview Nursing Home. They created a beautiful landscape and a well-established backdrop that looked unbelievable.

Finally, our third-place winner is Byron House Care Home, who created an inspiring three-tiered gingerbread house with internal lights.

We thank our homes for their participation and congratulate all winners for their wonderful creations.
