Coronavirus Update – December 2020

Dear team members, residents, relatives, and friends, we would like to update you on some of our developments around COVID-19 within our care homes.

Visiting

We understand how important it is for our residents to see their loved ones. Whilst the COVID-19 virus remains a risk to the population, we need to ensure that we do our best to keep our residents safe whilst allowing as much contact with friends and family as possible. With guidance from the government, local health authorities, and organisations such as the Care Provider Alliance (CPA) and in line with strict local protocols, we are currently able to facilitate visiting to some of our care homes in a number of ways:

  • POD visiting in our new specially constructed, COVID safe, visiting PODS
  • Virtual communication
  • Garden Visits
  • Window Visits
  • Internal Rooms Visits, for those receiving “End of Life Care” or in extreme circumstances

Whilst employing and developing group-wide visiting policies we have also tried to consider individual needs by conducting risk assessments and developing tailored visiting care plans where appropriate. Whilst we will do what we can to facilitate visits safely, the majority of contact will need to continue to take place remotely. Residents will continue to make regular use of telephone and video calls (via Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom, and FaceTime). We continue to run a strict booking process for all visits and these can be accessed by getting in touch with each home. Current government guidance on visiting can be found: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/visiting-care-homes-during-coronavirus

Testing

We have introduced new rapid and “Lateral Flow” testing across all of our homes. This will allow us to test relatives of residents to facilitate further visiting and interaction with their loved ones using personal protective equipment (PPE).  We will of course let you know when we are in a position to offer testing to support indoor visits and how this will be managed.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

At Westgate Healthcare we have started to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to our staff and residents. We are committed to delivering this in a timely, safe and effective manner. We hope this gives you the confidence that we are doing all that we can to enable visits to continue at our care homes where possible and in line with the latest guidance, whilst ensuring there is no compromise to the safety and wellbeing of your loved ones and our staff. We are extremely grateful for all your support and understanding during this difficult time. There are significant strides being made in the management of COVID-19 and we hope for a much brighter next few months for you and your loved ones. If you have any questions, please contact your Home Manager or e-mail info@westgatehc.co.uk

Best wishes, The Directors
