Celebrating Going That Extra Mile

Celebrating Going That Extra Mile

At Westgate Healthcare, we are fortunate to have lots of great employees, with our staff consistently showing their passion and determination to care for our residents. Our teams have been going above and beyond, to lift our residents’ spirits during these unprecedented times. Located in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, Kingfisher Nursing Home has been going the extra mile to keep their residents connected with the outside world. Home Manager, Mary, and her team, continued to reach out to the local community to see how they could support our residents during COVID-19 lockdown. Residents received letters and pictures from schools, as well as sweet treats from local businesses. They even had donations to help with the Westgate In Bloom competition. Garden landscapers cleaned up the garden, Tesco employees built a complimentary planter, and the local Wickes store kindly donated soil! The residents were delighted with the results and couldn’t wait for the future summer activities. Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Mary is passionate about celebrating equality, kindness, and compassion within the home. The CQC report states, ‘People were at the very heart of this service, and the staff team were highly motivated, dedicated and committed to providing compassionate care for people.’ (Click here to read the full report.) As thanks for all of the team’s hard work, Activities Lead, Angie, showed her appreciation by making handmade keyrings, personalised to each staff member. Kingfisher’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with Mary nominated as a finalist for the ‘Front-Line Leaders Award’, hosted by the Great British Care Awards 2020. Well done, Mary! Just twenty minutes up the road, and situated in the picturesque town of Ware, Hertfordshire, Westgate House Care Centre’s Home Manager, Nancy, has been working tirelessly to ensure that her residents are happy, safe and comfortable. When the home was closed to visitors, Nancy and the team used their creative skills to make a new friend for the residents. Wally has spread so much joy around the home, with residents visiting him in the garden most days for a chat. They even had a party to celebrate his arrival!
After achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating from CQC, in the ‘Well-Led’ category (Click here to read the full report), the Westgate House team is delighted to also be a GBCA finalist across two categories; ‘Care Team of the Year’ and ‘The Good Nurse Award’. Nancy said, “It’s a fantastic accolade for the Westgate House team to be nominated as a finalist in GBCA, we are so proud of this achievement, especially during a challenging time for the whole nation!” We look for team members who are compassionate and caring, who enjoy making a difference in people’s lives.
