Bringing Dreams to Life: Westgate Healthcare’s ‘Make a Wish’ Initiative

As a family-owned care group, Westgate Healthcare is dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes independence, fulfilment, happiness, and excitement for our residents. Our strong commitment to enhancing residents’ well-being inspired the launch of the ‘Make a Wish’ initiative in 2020, designed with residents and their families in mind. By granting the wishes of our residents, we give them the opportunity to create long-lasting and precious memories, making their time in our care homes truly special.

Through the ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, every resident is given the opportunity to share their dreams and desires by writing them on a ‘Wishing Tag’ and hanging it on the home’s ‘Wishing Tree’. Each month, one wish from each home is selected and granted, ranging from simple pleasures like enjoying a favourite meal or indulging in a chocolate treat, to more adventurous activities such as trips to the theatre or receiving a new art set.

For wishes that are more challenging to fulfil, residents are entered into the ‘Big Wish’ draw, with two grand wishes granted biannually across the Westgate Healthcare group. This initiative has created extraordinary moments of joy and excitement, including a celebratory party with a live jazz band, a personalised video message from West Ham Football Club along with a signed shirt, a delightful day trip to Rickmansworth Aquadrome with lunch, and a VIP experience at Chelmsford City Racecourse.

The most recent wish was fulfilled for a resident at St. Pauls Care Centre, who enjoyed a serene visit from monks of the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery. The monks shared stories of wisdom and offered comforting words, bringing a profound sense of peace and tranquillity.

At Westgate Healthcare, we are dedicated to making our residents’ dreams come true. We work hard to provide personal and meaningful experiences that improve their quality of life and bring happiness to their days. Our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative shows our commitment to creating special and unforgettable moments for our residents, ensuring they enjoy life to the fullest.
