Ashview Productions: Ready, Set, Action!

With days out being postponed and regular visits from family and friends not possible, Ashview Nursing Home in Ware, had to put their thinking caps on during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The lockdown has tested our creativity; quizzes quickly became tiresome, and the Zoom hype fizzled out. Finding more ways to entertain ourselves was becoming a challenge, care homes have had the added challenge of finding additional ways to keep their residents entertained!

Home Manager, Daniela Danciulescu says, "We try to keep the residents' laughing as much as possible during these unprecedented times, and that's why we started Ashview Productions."

As a fancy-dress enthusiast, Home Manager, Daniela, has many costumes hanging up in her wardrobe, and therefore, what better way to get the residents' smiling than with some theatrics? Daniela and her team donned their costumes, brushed up on their acting skills, and acted out some well-known productions.

Over the past couple of months, Ashview Productions has showcased a variety of shows, including; Minions, Flamenco Dancing, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Boy Who Cried, Wolf.

Ashview Productions has been so well received, residents have now started to make requests. After hearing the famous line “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?" on a TV advert, Romeo and Juliet, one of Ashview's most recent performances, was requested by the residents who thought the home could do with some Shakespearean poetry!

It's not just the staff that are getting involved either! Resident, Eileen is the Narrator for most of the productions, reading the script out, as the staff act out the scenes. Resident, Peter enjoys dressing up in the costumes and also regularly joins in on performances. Peter says, "It's good fun to join in with the plays. I especially enjoyed it when we were dancing and singing to the song ‘Happy’, and all of us dressed up as Minions!"

It's great to see the residents have fun, and at the end of every production, everyone gets up for a singsong and dance. Activities Lead, Emma expresses her delight, "It's lifted our spirits and put a smile on our faces. The residents like to see the staff letting their hair down and enjoy themselves."

We cannot wait to see what Ashview Productions has got in store for the residents next – Watch out, West End!
