A day in the life of a resident at Hampden Hall

Travelling down the hallway of Hampden Hall Care Centre, taking her time to stop and admire all of the beautiful paintings that hang up along the walls, Ellie greets everyone she passes; "Hello Thelma! How are you feeling today?". Ellie is on her morning routine, and her first stop is the reception area for a morning catch up with the office staff – Home Manager Thomas, Lifestyle and Communication Lead Lucie, Office Manager Jane, and Receptionist Debbie.

"Good Morning Debbie! Have the newspapers arrived yet?" Ellie is part of Westgate Healthcare's Lifestyle Pioneering programme, an initiative that aims to give residents purposeful roles within the care home. The programme encourages residents to embrace their passions and to take lead. Ellie has many responsibilities within the home and is involved in the running of events and training. She is also Pine Unit's Newspaper Distributor.

After visiting the office staff, Ellie will collect the daily newspapers, and heads back to Pine Unit, to hand them out to every resident. Once her morning duty is complete, Ellie will then meet up with her friend Peggy in the comfortable lounge area, have a chit chat, and complete the morning crossword together.

Ellie has a very bubbly and sociable persona and is always keen to help out a resident or staff member. She will often spend time in the beautiful green garden spaces around Hampden Hall, with her next-door neighbour Rosalie, who both share a passion for nature and the outdoors.

Whilst Ellie is a resident at Hampden Hall, she is also an integral member of the team. As an Events Lead, Ellie will often attend event meetings as well as support the Health and Wellbeing team, to create a fully packed activity schedule.

When Group Training Manager Maria visits the home, Ellie helps with completing staff training competencies, and trains others on the importance of a handwashing regime! Ellie will attend regular training sessions to keep up to date as well as help design informative posters to be displayed around the home. She is a lady of many talents!

Ellie's infectious and cheery persona rubs off on everyone, with a joyous feeling that always shines throughout the home. Like many of the other residents, Ellie has created a strong bond with the team at Hampden Hall – you will most likely catch her at the nurses' station having a good old natter!

Hampden Hall is not just your ordinary care home – it's a place of laughter, support, and happiness.
