Success Stories

At Westgate Healthcare we truly value our team members and we encourage them to develop and improve. We encourage training and support our team to achieve additional qualifications. Your time with us here at Westgate really is a journey, so where you start with us doesn’t have to be where you end up. Below are some of our success stories.

Juliana Mensah - Home Manager

I have been with Westgate Healthcare for over 10 years now. I joined as a Unit Manager and, because this organisation invests in the future and nurtures the personal and professional growth of its employees, I’m now a Home Manager. There’s a culture of enthusiasm, which is why I’m still here and haven’t considered going anywhere else! Senior management keeps a constant eye on employee satisfaction levels and they are able to alleviate any issues as and when they arise. Westgate’s approach is family orientated and I’m accepted as part of that family to the extent of receiving a bouquet of flowers on my birthday! We also have social activities organised for us, which makes working with them so much more exciting; examples include attending awards nights, going out for dinners during managers’ meetings, attending empowerment days etc, as well as receiving long service awards. Last, but not least, I have a good salary and a pension scheme!

Taylor O'Sullivan - Head Chef

I first joined the Westgate Healthcare team as an Assistant Chef covering between Byron House, Burford House and here at Hampden Hall. When the Head Chef at Hampden Hall left, I was offered the role and I was more than happy to accept! I have now been Head Chef of the largest home in the group since 2015 and I thoroughly enjoy working with my team. Throughout my time with Westgate Healthcare I have been well supported by the directors and management, and given the budget and free rein to produce a 5* menu for our residents.

Lucie Baker - Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead

I have been with Westgate Healthcare for nearly 5 years now, having changed career paths from a Primary School Teacher to working in care. Having first hand experience of a family member living with Dementia, I want to make a difference to the lives of others and make sure every day counts. I regard all our residents as family and want to make each day as enjoyable as possible.

Westgate recognised my enthusiasm and supported my personal development across a variety of roles initially joining as a Carer, then Activities Co-Ordinator and Administrator/Front of House. My heart lies in “giving back”, whereby the Directors and Management acknowledged my key skills and offered me the position of Lifestyle and Wellbeing Lead.

No two days are ever the same, which is exciting and fresh and the Westgate team are always on-hand to provide support and guidance. My role encompasses being a Home Ambassador, attending relatives meetings, organising resident and team wellbeing initiatives, managing and training activities team members on Westgate Initiatives, offering interview support and sharing my knowledge and experience with fellow colleagues across all homes.

I love what I do and feel valued by all the Westgate management team and am looking forward to progressing my ideas within.

Fanel Pirjoleanu - Group Maintenance Manager

I joined Westgate nearly 9 years ago as a maintenance worker at St Pauls Care Centre and very quickly I felt I was valued by the team around me. I was supported by the company to work flexibly so that I could balance my work and home life. I’ve been encouraged to always aim higher and head office approached me about taking on a group-wide management role. I was hesitant to take the step up to start with, but they invested in me – sending me on various training courses to support me in the role and I am now the group-wide Facilities Manager. I lead refurbishment projects across the group as well as managing the groupwide maintenance team. I have really enjoyed the variety of projects and challenges the opportunity brought me and I have learned so much about the industry. Above all, I have felt supported in progressing my career and after all this time I still look forward to coming to work every day.

I feel I have been nurtured and supported by my staff team, managers and company directors. Mareena Varghese - Senior Nurse
