Success stories

At Westgate Healthcare we truly value our team members and we encourage them to develop and improve. We encourage training and support our team to achieve additional qualifications. Your time with us here at Westgate really is a journey, so where you start with us doesn't have to be where you end up. Below are some of our success stories.

Juliana Mensah - Home Manager

I have been with Westgate Healthcare for 9 years now. I joined as a Unit Manager and, because this organisation invests in the future and nurtures the personal and professional growth of its employees, I’m now a Home Manager.

There’s a culture of enthusiasm, which is why I’m still here and haven’t considered going anywhere else! Senior management keeps a constant eye on employee satisfaction levels and they are able to alleviate any issues as and when they arise.

Westgate’s approach is family orientated and I’m accepted as part of that family to the extent of receiving a bouquet of flowers on my birthday!

We also have social activities organised for us, which makes working with them so much more exciting; examples include attending awards nights, going out for dinners during managers’ meetings, attending empowerment days etc, as well as receiving long service awards.

Last, but not least, I have a good salary and a pension scheme!

Taylor O'Sullivan - Head Chef

I first joined the Westgate Healthcare team as an Assistant Chef covering between Byron House, Burford House and here at Hampden Hall. When the Head Chef at Hampden Hall left, I was offered the role and I was more than happy to accept! I have now been Head Chef of the largest home in the group for 3 years and I thoroughly enjoy working with my team. Throughout my time with Westgate Healthcare I have been well supported by the directors and management, and given the budget and free rein to produce a 5* menu for our residents.

Shannon McClory - Head of Activities

I have worked in Westgate Healthcare for 5 years now, starting as a Healthcare Assistant and then moving on to the Activities department.

I have completed both my NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and I have also signed up for my NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care. Most recently I have completed the Oomph training programme which was inspirational.

The amazing opportunities I’ve been given to grow, thrive and expand my knowledge are endless! Last year I was nominated by my team for a Great British Care Award and reached the regional finals, attending the gala night in central London with the Westgate directors.

I never realised I would love my job as much as I do! Every day after finishing work I go home with a sense of achievement and great satisfaction knowing I’ve made my residents’ day that little bit better and more meaningful.

Fanel Pirjoleanu - Group Maintenance Manager

I joined Westgate nearly 9 years ago as a maintenance worker at St Pauls Care Centre and very quickly I felt I was valued by the team around me. I was supported by the company to work flexibly so that I could balance my work and home life.

I've been encouraged to always aim higher and head office approached me about taking on a group-wide management role. I was hesitant to take the step up to start with, but they invested in me - sending me on various training courses to support me in the role and I am now the group-wide Facilities Manager.

I lead refurbishment projects across the group as well as managing the groupwide maintenance team. I have really enjoyed the variety of projects and challenges the opportunity brought me and I have learned so much about the industry. Above all, I have felt supported in progressing my career and after all this time I still look forward to coming to work every day.

I feel I have been nurtured and supported by my staff team, managers and company directors.
